Dear Rayne,

I am surprised to find this email in my inbox given that I found you through AutoCrit. I certainly have no objection to a competition for people who don't want to use AI, despite being baffled how you will tell whether someone has used an AI prompt to inspire their story. There are plenty of good reasons not to use AI, especially as it can be considered unethical and supporting theft from creators. However, I am shocked at your blatant quotes in your 'funny' cartoons accusing people of not being 'real' writers just because they may have looked at something created by AI at some point in the story creation. I am even more horrified that you are telling people to quit because they find AI tools useful. AI does not take the skill or joy out of story craft. I shall be unsubscribing from your newsletter, which ironically in this format seems to have lost all the humanity that it used to have. I guess you won't be involved with AutoCrit anymore, since no one who uses it can be a 'real' writer.

If you don't want to write a story without AI, then don't enter this contest. It's as simple as that. :-)

I've been a long time reader of your books thanks to your black cat haha (probably over 15 years now. I've posted reviewed of my favorites some too busy reading next to review) and I'm finally debuting (again) in this pen name. And those editing and writing advice is still with me. I hope I can get the physical copies soon and hopefully have it signed if I ever meet you.

Thanks for hard support on true human talent. I decided to stopped joining NaNoWriMo this years for this reason. However, I'm not against AI in general. I'M AGAINST AI-GENERATED content, which I think is also what you meant in this letter and all the cartoons.

This will be quite a challenge for me because I'm not a gothic writer, but I want to join the contest. Goodluck me! Haha

Hi Jessie. It was probably 10 or 11 years ago, because that’s when I adopted the black kitten Sulu from the Shelter.

Sulu came with me to Bulgaria. He is now the stately patriarch of a clan of rescued cats.

Reviews are always appreciated and welcome.

I think my post makes it quite clear what kind of AI I’m referring to, and also that the challenge is to write a story without using any AI at all. It’s worrying how many writers are no longer able to craft a story without AI input.

I want to counterbalance this by offering prizes for the best stories written completely without AI.

As for when AI is useful and when it’s not - that’s a can of worms. Most people are for AI that saves them money (even if it takes away income from others), but are against AI that takes away income from them (even if it saves money for others).

Personally, I dislike the following most: AI customer support. AI assessing and judging creative efforts (there are writing contests judged by AI!), AI selecting job applicants, AI making the decision in disputes.

Best of success with your new publishing projects!

Rayne
